Ale and Alex’s Wedding Styled Shoot at the Stunning Coco Plum in Miami, Fl.
We had NO idea what styled shoots were before we became wedding photographers. And our first styled shoot was put together in only a week! Yup, you heard that right. Here’s how it happened!
Xiaoqi is a super talented photographer. She owns Xiaoqi Li Photography out of Virginia. She and I met each other through a Facebook group. She was coming to Miami for a wedding and wanted to set up a styled shoot while she was down here. Pete and I had never done a styled shoot before so we weren’t sure how it all worked. And like I said, we only had about 1 week to put it all together!
Xiaoqi helped us out so much and found an amazing venue, hairstylist, makeup artist, calligrapher, and florist to collaborate with. We found our models – Ale and Alex. They are an adorable couple who are friends with some of my best friends.
I also offered my actual wedding dress for the shoot since we could not find a bridal shop to collaborate with on such short notice. My dress fit Ale perfectly! Alex wore a suit he owned and we bought the desserts from a bakery nearby. Ale owns an accessories company so she brought some really fun earrings to wear as well!

We were all set and SO excited to participate in our first ever styled shoot.
We really needed a lot of wedding content at the time for our portfolio so I decided to photograph and Pete filmed and put together an absolutely beautiful video.
We had such a great time shooting with Xiaoqi and Mary from Mary Shelton Media. We also loved collaborating with all of the amazing vendors. The shoot came out more beautiful than I ever anticipated and they are still some of my favorite pictures of all time.
Now we’re absolutely obsessed with styled shoots! We’ve done so many since then. They are such a great way to build your portfolio and practice shooting weddings without the stress of an actual wedding day.
Even more special than the bomb photos and video Pete and I were able to create through this styled shoot were the connections we made with other creatives in the wedding industry. And all the tips they gave us that we couldn’t be more thankful for!
We actually ended up working with the venue The Coco Plum, the florist De La Fleur Designs, the makeup artist I Do Bridal Glam, and with Xiaoqi again on another styled shoot a few months later.
